Editorial policy
An electoral campaign is now underway in light of the general elections that will take place on a provincial level on Tuesday, September 4th.
Any electoral campaign is a privileged opportunity for a reporter to act as an impartial witness to this very important exercise in democracy.
The newspapers and the websites linked to the Newspaper division, Quebec & Ontario from TC Media commit to showing equity and objectivity.
All information will be treated with rigor in accordance to the principles set out in the Journalistic practices guide of TC Media, as well as the Code of Ethics of the Professional Federation of Quebec Journalists.
In doing so, a balanced coverage of candidates and parties will be provided in the newspaper. As for the website, it will release all the latest news on the applicants based on the decisions made by management. Moreover, the newspaper and its website will not be releasing any opinion letters and / or other columns, notes or blogs of a partisan nature during this period. However, special attention will be given to the press releases of a political nature.
News whose source is misidentified or anonymous will not be broadcast. The front page which reflects the local and regional news weekly, is at the discretion of the news management, which will decide on its content depending on the importance of the news, fairness and objectivity.
Finally, surveys conducted during this period will be treated with great diligence and with great respect to the methodology used.
Social Media
The principles mentioned above also apply to social media; where we must take the public and private space into account. This must be done in a context where every topic exchanged can become public, despite of the possibility of settling levels of confidentiality.
