It didn’t take a matchmaker or a rich man to determine who starred in which part for the timeless classic, Fiddler on the Roof, that was recently put on by the Grade 6 class of the Beutel campus of United Talmud Torahs. Rather, Musical Director Patrick Roche listened to the melodic voices of all the students and had to make some difficult choices.
And it was no miracle of miracle that this trilingual production of Fiddler came together so beautifully. Rather, it was thanks to the artistic direction of teachers Nathalie Elkeslassy and Denise Nezri and of course the interest and enthusiasm of the students who were so excited to be a part of this production.
Together, this made rehearsing and choreography enjoyable and on the minds of all students, day and night, sunrise sunset. Between the sets and the costumes and the dancing, the chorus and the acting and set changes, this outstanding UTT production that was envisioned by Principal, Soly Benamron, fulfilled every Sabbath prayer and even Tevye himself couldn’t have dreamt up a better, more professional performance. Kudos to the cast of this production and to parents, teachers and administrators involved in making the play such a smash hit.
Clearly, now facing graduation and moving on to high school, this very together group of Grade 6 students will no doubt, after graduation, feel that that they will be far from the home they loved. Yet the tradition of putting on excellent plays at UTT will live on with this production being the benchmark for excellence. To all involved- l’chaim!
