Formalities
At the first general meeting following the November 1 municipal elections, the borough secretary, Me Isabelle Bastien, officially introduced the new Saint-Laurent Council. All the members of the former council were re-elected except for the City Councillor for Norman-McLaren district Patricia Bittar who did not run for re-election. Aref Salem replaced her.
Call for tenders
A series of calls for tenders took place. Two calls for public tenders were launched for roadwork and sidewalks repairs on various streets for 2010. A third was to authorize a call for public tenders for repair work on the chalet roof at Caron and Cousineau Parks.
Salty note
The borough is preparing for winter and the coming snowfall. A $960,746 order went to Sifto Canada Corp. for the supply of salt to de-ice roads.
Council comes out of its reserve
An agreement was signed with the Musée des maîtres et artisans of Quebec for the construction of a museum reserve. The cultural facility had been making numerous calls to the ministry and to the administration to relocate and protect the museum pieces stored in its reserve.
Sports contest
Just as was done for the new library, the borough is moving forward with an architectural contest in order to draw up plans for a Sports Complex that was recently announced.
Subsidies
A series of subsidies were granted to various local organizations. A large share of the cake will be allocated to the Saint-Laurent Hockey Committee for its 2009 activities. This amounts to a sum of $456,000.
Moreover, $15,000 was given to the Committee of Social Welfare Organizations of Saint-Laurent for 2009-2010 in support of initiatives related to the triennial action plan. Lastly, $8,000 was also provided to the Committee of Social Welfare Organizations of Saint-Laurent in support of their 2009 Christmas Store-Division.
Temporary mayor
Council named Laval Demers temporary mayor for the period of November 14, 2009 to January 12, 2010. Already City Councillor for Cote-de-Liesse district Demers will serve as a substitute and represent the Mayor of Saint-Laurent Alan DeSousa, if he is not available.
Vaccination campaign
At the end of the meeting, the mayor emphasized the contribution of municipal employees who worked with the CSSS of Bordeaux-Cartierville - Saint-Laurent to ensure a successful vaccination campaign against Influenza A (H1N1), which is currently taking place at the Centre des loisirs.
