Time to Party!
St. Laurent Summer Celebrations 2007
Every summer, the Borough of St. Laurent offers a program of free activities as part of its St. Laurent Summer Celebrations. This year’s edition is sure to please people of all ages as shows, movies and a ton of activities are scheduled for the months of July and August.
Even if the Celebrations kicked off on June 9th with the Show-Chaud, the first summer event was last Wednesday when traditional music band Les Tireux d’roches performed at Beaudet Park. The group of six musicians brought it back to the days of old family reunions. The crowd could not resist clapping their hands to the sound of the many musical instruments used by the band.
The Circus is in town
The line-up of activities has undergone a small change as the Concert laurentien is being replaced by Cirka: spectacle des arts du cirque. Featuring acrobats and staging effects, this event promises a number of magical moments. Free passes are required for this event which is going to be held at Raymond-Bourque Arena on August 10th. The gymnasts from St. Laurent’s Gymslic Club will warm up the audience starting at 7 p.m.
Evenening shows
Ryna Wolteger is the leader of another trio that will showcase its talent during the Summer Celebrations. On July 25th at Beth Ora Congregation’s community center, this East-European band will take you around the world in 10 different languages.
Last but not least Le Quatuor Bavarois de Jacques Dumont will perform on August 8th at Caron Park.
Outdoor movies
Two outdoor screenings are also part of this year’s Celebrations and they are both starting at 9 p.m. On July 4th at Painter Park Ben Stiller stars in the hilarious comedy Night at the Museum (French version). Your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man is back for the third time on August 1st at Chamberland Park.
Neighbourhood party and other activities
Everyone is invited to come at the biggest party of the summer Wednesday July 18th from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Poirier Park. Organised activities and a performance by new hip hop and R&B act Île City are scheduled. The group promises to make people move to their head bopping conscious music.
The Fête Animagique and the Aquafête are going to be celebrated on August 15th or the day after in case of rain. This double party is the perfect occasion for children and their parents to enjoy the end of day camps.
The St. Laurent’s Artists Association invites art lovers to visit its outdoor exhibit located at the corner of Poirier and Charles-Darwin on August 11th and 12th between 2 and 8 p.m. People will be able to contemplate and even buy some of the paintings.
Also on August 12th, the Sunday mass at St. Laurent Church will be followed by a breakfast on the lawn with folk-jazz group Give. It is also free admission day at Musée des maîtres et artisans du Québec from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
The last event of this year’s Summer Celebrations will be a family picnic on August 23rd at Painter Park. Residents of Chameran are welcomed to gather and enjoy various activities.
