National Council of Deans at Vanier College

During day-long sessions they discuss recruitment problems, share successful initiatives, exchange information and plan interventions with government in support of various college concerns. “It is stimulating to spend several hours in the company of colleagues who struggle with the same problems that bedevil me,” states George Archer, Dean of Applied Technology at Vanier College and the meeting’s host.

Vanier College offers several high caliber technology programs such as Nursing, Animal Health, Building Systems Engineering, Business Administration, Special Care Counselling, Early Childhood Education, Environmental and Wildlife Management and Professional Music and Song Techniques, to name but a few. These three-year programs provide students with a general education, specialized training and employability skills that lead directly to employment in lucrative professions or to further university studies.

It was Boris Tzvetkov a student graduating this year from another technology program, Vanier’s Micropublishing and Hypermedia program who designed the poster for the spring meeting.

One of the highlights of this year’s gathering was a visit to the Canada Space Center in St-Hubert where the visitors were introduced to the famous Canada Arm and hosted by the scientists who conduct research on space and on the further development of the Arm. “The engineering members were salivating,” comments Archer. “Twenty members decided to fly in one day earlier to be on the tour.”
