The John Abbott College Islanders tennis team is set for the provincials this Sunday in St. Laurent, where they hope to meet their arch rivals from College Brébeuf in the finals.
The Islander tennis team lost a close match 4-3 (8-7 in sets) against College Brébeuf this past Sunday, ending the regular season of the four-team league. The Islanders, with a 7-2 record, will play Vanier in the provincial semi-finals Sunday at 10 a.m. Should they beat Vanier for the fourth consecutive time this season, they will probably meet College Brébeuf (8-1) to determine the provincial tennis crown at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Club Sportif Cote de Liesse.

The JAC team is led by Ryan Boutell and Jillian O’Neill, said longtime head coach Cas Ternynck.

The JAC tennis team is comprised of 19 players, 11 men and 8 women, but only six guys and four women get to play during a match. They play both singles and doubles to determine which team wins. The team usually practises twice a week and play every Sunday in the fall semester, Ternynck said, adding most players are ranked provincially and also workout on their own.
