Junior A Canadians finally on home ice
After spending the entire month of September on the road, the Junior A Canadians hockey team played their first home game at the Cégep Saint-laurent arena on Oct. 1.
Repairs to the concrete beneath the Cégep's skating surface and the refrigeration system at the arena over the summer is the reason behind the delay in starting games at home.
The exhibition game against Pointe-Claire's Webster Academy, a newly formed team in a rival league, had the Canadians outshooting their opponents 46 to 23 and winning the game by a score of 6-3.
"It was great to see the boy's excitement," said team owner Michel Bilotto. "They were eager and happy to finally play at home in front of family and friends. The crowd seemed surprised at the speed, tempo, intensity and the high level of play both teams offered."
The Junior A Canadians are the only Canadian team in the International Junior Hockey League. The team's first ever regular season home game in Saint-Laurent is scheduled for Nov. 4 at 7 pm against the Mass Mariners. Their next game will be against the Boston Jr Blackhawks in St. Agapit near Quebec City on Oct. 7.
