Free workshop for parents and their kids
Do you need ideas on keeping your children busy? Or would you like to take the opportunity to spend some quality time with your children? Come join our family as part of a Concordia University project in Family Life Education by professionals in the field. The Saint-Laurent YMCA is offering workshops for parents with children between the ages of 2 and 5. The program begins on Oct. 8 and runs Sundays from 9 am to 11 am until Nov. 26. @STA:Halloween Scarecrow
The Musée des Maîtres et Artisans du Québec (615 Sainte-Croix Ave.) will hold a family workshop on Saturday, Oct. 14 and Sunday, Oct. 15, at 2 pm, for parents and their children, aged 4 and up. Add to your Halloween decor this year with your very own handmade scarecrow. Reservations required at 514 747-7367, ext. 7204.
Update on Israel
Beth Ora Seniors invites the public to a lecture by Beryl Wajsman, president at the Institute for Public Affairs of Montreal, who will discuss the latest events in Israel. The lecture will take place on Oct. 10 at 1:45 pm at Congregation Beth Ora (2600 Badeaux Street). Refreshments are served and everyone is welcome. For information, call 514 342-1234, ext. 7256.
Activities at the Legion
The Saint-Laurent branch of the Royal Canadian Legion will be holding an Oktoberfest Dinner & Dance on Oct. 14 at 6 pm. Live entertainment. All welcome, bring a friend. Activities of The Royal Canadian Legion are open to the pu blic. The legion is located at 4795 Henri Bourassa West, 514 336-8790.
Senior Citizen's neighbourhood association
If you like to play bridge, cribbage or bingo, come and join our group at the Saint-Laurent YMCA (1745 Decarie) on Wednesday afternoons at 1 pm. Dues are $10 a year. We also need a volunteer to help with the coffee break. In return for this service you get free membership and free outings. Call Marge at 514 336-6647 or Janet at 514 337-9748.
Homework program and French classes for kids
CARI Saint-Laurent is running a homework program open to newly arrived immigrant students, aged 6 to 12 years old, or students of immigrant origin living in Saint-Laurent who need assistance with their homework. The homework sessions are every Monday and Wednesday from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. French classes are also available for immigrant students attending English and French primary schools in Saint-Laurent. The beginners groups meets every Tuesday and the intermediate group every Thursday from 4 pm to 6 pm. All classes will be held at 1500 Decarie, suite 36. The sessions run until June 7. To register, parents must set up an appointment with Sujata Gill at CARI Saint-Laurent and bring their children to the appointment. Registrations take place at CARI Saint-Laurent offices (1179 Decarie, suite 10). The homework program costs $8 per child per month and the French classes cost $10 per child per month. Father MacDonald reunion
The 20-year reunion of Father MacDonald High School, class of '86, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28 at "Le Challenger" (200-2505 rue des Nations) in Saint-Laurent. Cocktails at 6 pm, followed by dinner at 7:30 pm. Price: $75 per person, and includes two bottles of wine per table. Please RSVP before Oct. 14.
