Police Beat — Oct. 8
Toy donations
Local police are asking citizens to do their part to bring a smile to a child's face by donating new or used toys to the Montreal fire department's annual collection. Drop-offs can be made at either of the two local police stations; station 6 (1761 Grenet) and station 7 (780 Decarie). The annual toy drive was extended to Oct. 14 due to the lack donations received so far. Volunteer firefighters restore the toys, which are then donated to organizations devoted to the well-being of children.
ID booklets for kids
The Missing Children's Network of Canada wants to encourage parents to participate in the 5th annual provincial Child Identification Day on Oct. 15, from 10 am to 3 pm, at the McDonald's restaurant located at 1565 Côte-Vertu, near Decarie. Children accompanied by a parent will be able to either receive ID booklets or have their ones updated. The booklets can go a long way in helping police track down a missing child because it contains a recent photo of the child and digitalized fingerprints. The Missing Children's Network of Canada has returned 521 children safe and sound to their families since 1985.
Pedestrian safety
Montreal police have launched a road safety campaign, until Oct. 31, targetting both predestrians and motorists. Local police officers will be keeping an eye out at intersections near the Côte-Vertu and Du Collège metro stations in the coming weeks.
