Coffee and dessert part
The Fatima Ladies' Association will be holding a coffee and dessert party on Oct. 20 from 10 am to noon. There will also be a book sale, bake table and treasure table. The sale will take place at 875 Marcel Laurin Blvd.
Candy Bag
The Musée des Maîtres et Artisans du Québec (615 Sainte-Croix Ave.) will hold a family workshop on Saturday, Oct. 21 and Sunday, Oct. 22, at 2 pm, for parents and their children, aged 4 and up. Vélogik's Earn-a-bike program is back!
Beginning Oct. 18, every Wednesday from 3 pm to 7 pm, Vélogik (1480 de l'Église Street) opens its doors again to the community for the Earn-a-bike program. Update on Israel
Beth Ora Seniors invites the public to a lecture by Stephen Lapidus, Concordia University doctoral student in the Jewish Studies Department, who will discuss the history of Jewish organizations in Montreal. Books and jammies
A pyjama story hour will be presented at the Saint-Laurent Public Library (1380 De l'Église) in honor of Library Week. Local youngsters between the ages of 3 and 6 are invited to attend this very special evening storytime on Oct. 19 at 7 pm. Don't forget to wear your pyjamas.
Place à la Marche general meeting
The members of Place à la Marche are invited to attend the walking club's annual general meeting on Oct. 20 at 9:30 am in local 136 of the Centre des Loisirs (1375 Grenet Street). Among other things, the meeting will include a vote to fill the executive positions, which takes places every two years. We are counting on your attendance!
Amirkhanian at Vanier College
The Congress of Canadian Armenians presents composer, pianist, singer and performer Robert Amirkhanian, who will be in Montreal for the first time to give a benefit concert to mark the 31st anniversary of Abaka Weekly Newspaper. Amirkhanian has composed numerous patriotic and popular songs, many of which you will instantly recognize. He is President of the Composers' Union of Armenia, and a Member of Armenia's Parliament. He will be accompanied at the concert by award-winning singer Seda Sargsyan. The concert will be held on Oct. 21 at 8:00 pm in the Vanier College auditorium. Father MacDonald reunion
The 20-year reunion of Father MacDonald High School, class of '86, will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28 at "Le Challenger" (200-2505 rue des Nations) in Saint-Laurent. Cocktails at 6 pm, followed by dinner at 7:30 pm. Price: $75 per person, and includes two bottles of wine per table. Power of prayer
Congregation Beth Ora's "Prayer for Life" series presents renowned writer and speaker Paysach Krohn in "The Power of Prayer" on Oct. 30 at 7:30 pm at the Congregation Beth Ora (2600 Badeaux Street). Krohn is the author of five collections of inspiring stories (the Maggid series) nd has addressed audiences throughout the world. No charge.
Senior Citizen's neighbourhood association
If you like to play bridge, cribbage or bingo, come and join our group at the Saint-Laurent YMCA (1745 Decarie) on Wednesday afternoons at 1 pm. Dues are $10 a year. We also need a volunteer to help with the coffee break. In return for this service you get free membership and free outings. Call Marge at 514 336-6647 or Janet at 514 337-9748.
Homework program and French classes for kids
CARI Saint-Laurent is running a homework program open to newly arrived immigrant students, aged 6 to 12 years old, or students of immigrant origin living in Saint-Laurent who need assistance with their homework. The homework sessions are every Monday and Wednesday from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. French classes are also available for immigrant students attending English and French primary schools in Saint-Laurent. The beginners groups meets every Tuesday and the intermediate group every Thursday from 4 pm to 6 pm. All classes will be held at 1500 Decarie, suite 36. The sessions run until June 7, 2007. To register, parents must set up an appointment with Sujata Gill at CARI Saint-Laurent and bring their children to the appointment. Registrations take place at CARI Saint-Laurent offices (1179 Decarie, suite 10). The homework program costs $8 per child per month and the French classes cost $10 per child per month. Free workshop for parents and their kids
Do you need ideas on keeping your children busy? Or would you like to take the opportunity to spend some quality time with your children? Come join our family as part of a Concordia University project in Family Life Education by professionals in the field. The Saint-Laurent YMCA is offering workshops for parents with children between the ages of 2 and 5. The program began on Oct. 8 and runs Sundays from 9 am to 11 am until Nov. 26.
