Tremblay's advice rings hollow
For almost three weeks now, we have read and heard of the fierce opposition to Mayor Gerald Tremblay's decision to rename Park Ave. It was reported that of the thousand letters and/or emails received in his office, only two were in favour. Despite all of this, Mayor Tremblay has yet to withdraw his proposal. This speaks volumes!

I regard Tremblay's advice to the councillors that they vote in accordance with what they deem to be the best interest of their constituents as absolutely hollow. My sense is that, (a) he gave permission solely to Plateau Mayor Helen Fotopulos and the other Plateau councillors to vote against the name change because it became evident that their future political careers might be seriously jeopardized, and (b) the remaining Executive members and councillors in his Party will be required to vote the Party line.

Warren Allemand and Marvin Rotrand are to be applauded for their principled stand on the issue. They did not wait for Mayor Tremblay's permission to voice their opposition and intend to vote against his decision.

I look forward to seeing the results of the Nov. 27th vote on this issue and finding out specifically who voted for and who voted against. That too will likely speak volumes.
