Quebec culture celebrated
With familiar tradition, the 14th edition of Winter Festival organized by the borough of Saint-Laurent took place last Sunday at Gohier Park.
"Since there was good weather, many people came out,” said a delighted Marie-Pascale Richard, an organizer of the popular event, who was relieved that the weather was not as bad as last year. “Close to 1,500 parents and children took part in the festivities. This year, we had the idea that the winter festival is a true celebration of winter from the past, something very familiar."
An occasion to have celebrate
Dressed with a hat, scarf and mittens, participants came ready for some fresh air. With the theme being "féerigodon: celebrating winter our own special way," families could benefit from the quality of the artistic presentations inspired by Quebec and Inuit traditions.
Élias came with his wife Juliana, their two boys, Ralph and Christopher and daughter Pamela. "We never miss the winter festival," said a smiling Élias while drinking hot chocolate with his family. "It will need to be reheated. With the small ones, the day will be long."

Christopher, the youngest of the children, seemed happy to be present. "I like the shows and the dance," he said timidly.

Visitors were not short of activities. From 1 to 5 p.m., they had the choice of excursions in a horse drawn sleigh, Quebec and Inuit folk dance shows with the troupe Les bon diables, folktales with Père Vallée and a multitude of games which interested all ages.
Diverse program
There was something for all tastes and talent. The sports minded could partake in a hockey tournament at a skating rink in the park. Those who were skilled came out in numbers to try their hand at a wildlife game.
The ice canoe challenge brought together many participants, while the shows given throughout the day rallied together the many people who came and danced. "It is super!" said one lady joyfully who was suddenly enchanted by the performance of Les bon diables.

The activities on snow and the awarding of prizes were well appreciated. Participants are already looking forward to next year for another winter festival that has become a true tradition for Saint-Laurent citizens. (Written by Ismaël Houdassine, translated by Michael Beigleman)
