Our colleague Gilles Gaudet passed away at age 48
It is with surprise and sadness that we learned of the sudden death of Gilles Gaudet, who was an advertising consultant for a few years at the Saint-Laurent News and Courrier Bordeaux-Cartierville. He had also held the same position with the Expression de Joliette, where he resided.
Last weekend in Toronto, Gilles took part in the annual hockey tournament of the Quebec and Ontario Transcontinental newspaper group, owner of the weeklies at which he worked.
After having played a game upon their arrival Friday, the group of players from Quebec returned to the hotel for a team supper. Gilles unfortunately suffered an infarction in his hotel room. In spite of the fast intervention of emergency services and his transport to the hospital, he passed away.
Passionate for hockey, Gilles took part in all Transcontinental tournaments since 1999. In addition he had almost 10 years of service within the company, where he was appreciated and especially recognized for his smile, his good mood and his generosity. In solidarity with Gilles and his family, the players from the two teams unanimously decided to return to Quebec.
Gilles Gaudet leaves his wife Diane Melançon, their three children Gilbert, Stéphanie and Marc-Antoine, his parents Gerald Gaudet and Gisele Beaudry, and his father-in-law Jean-Guy Melançon. His funeral took place Thursday in Joliette.
The members of the Transcontinental family offer their sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Gilles.
He was appreciated and especially recognized for his smile, his good mood and his generosity.
