For a pesticide-free summer in Saint-Laurent
In order to notify the population about alternative solutions to the use of pesticides now that they have been prohibited, the Borough is inviting Saint-Laurent residents to attend a free conference on the topic on May 28 (in French) and on June 4 (in English) at the Centre des loisirs (1375, rue Grenet). Conference participants will learn how to aerate, top-dress, and fertilize using 100% natural fertilizer, and how to control negative effects.
Since 2004, a bylaw has been in effect in Saint-Laurent concerning the use of pesticides on the territory. Accordingly, the use and application of pesticides is now banned outside unless the products used are biopesticides designated by the Agence de réglementation de la lutte antiparasitaire, or made from ingredients authorized in the Pesticide Management Code of Quebec.
It is however possible to spread pesticides under exceptional circumstances, as long as a temporary application permit is obtained for this purpose, and as long as this is done in accordance with very strict rules concerning weather conditions, location, soil conditions, etc. A permit will only be issued after an inspector attests to the presence of an infestation, and verifies eligibility conditions.
The annual distribution of free compost and trees that will take place on Saturday, May 12 between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Municipal Workshops, located at 13001, boulevard Cavendish.
