Council highlights
August 7th session
For the second month in a row, the council chamber was packed for the borough’s council meeting. Many residents from the Toupin Boulevard area gathered on this warm August evening to asked mayor DeSousa and his team multiple questions regarding the planned opening of the Cavendish Boulevard.
Toupin Vs. Cavendish
The public question period saw around 12 people addressing their issues and worries about the upcoming opening of the Cavendish Boulevard. See the detailed article on the front page.
Transportation plan
As asked by the City of Montreal, St. Laurent is working on its own transportation plan. Out of the three firms which submitted an offer, Tecsult inc. was the one awarded the $142 503 contract to carry out the project.
Police report
St. Laurent police district stations handed out their bi-monthly reports for the months of May and June. Captain Gino Dubé mentioned that incivilities were significantly down compared to three years ago, but that the summer saw an increase in aggravated thefts.
Already gone?
An authorisation for a call to tenders regarding the rebuilding of two 500 HP snow blower engines was withdrawn from the agenda after a citizen commented the issue during the public question period. Denis Ouellet told the elected representatives that the two engines were already gone to the repair facility, even before there was a call to tenders. The borough’s director Serge Lamontagne said he would look into it.
Destroy and rebuild
Three calls to tenders were allowed concerning the destruction of wading pools in Grou, Bélanger and Petit parks. The pools will be replaced by water games and other improvements in those parks are also scheduled.
