Council Highlights
An impression of déjà vu could be felt during the October 2nd borough council meeting. Once again the council chamber was full during the public question period and the questions asked were all related to the opening of Cavendish on Toupin and to the noise caused by airplanes. Mayor Alan DeSousa answered every citizen, but no new development regarding both issues. A new petition signed by 940 people against the opening of Cavendish was also handed.
Congratulations to…
Before the public question period the council honoured the athletes and coaches who allowed St. Laurent to finish first in the athletics category at the Quebec Games that were held in Setp-Îles last August.
Claude Normandeau was also given a congratulation motion for the work he accomplished throughout his career, especially as CEO and president of Technoparc St. Laurent. His replacement Mario Monette was also officially introduced.
Police station merger
Neighbourhood police stations 6 and 7 are now one. The Laurentian police force will continue to operate from both buildings until they find a new home. Commandants Michele Lacoursière and Gino Dubé are by the same occasion leaving to undertake new functions. Éric Lapena will take over as the new Commandant of the unified station.
Speeding tickets
The bi-monthly police reports for both stations were also handed in during the council meeting. For the months of July and August more than 5000 tickets were given including 150 in the Toupin Boulevard area. The overall crime rate which includes aggravated theft is also down compared to the previous months.
