Five-and-oh so fine
The Vanier College AAA Football Cheetahs ran their record to a perfect 5-0 with a solid 39-7 road win over Édouard-Montpetit this past Saturday. With the victory, Coach Peter Chryssomalis’ squad maintains their four point cushion over F.X. Garneau and Vieux-Montréal atop the league standings.
The Cheetahs jumped out to a commanding 21-0 first quarter lead. Rémi Biakabutuka opened the scoring at the 3:06 mark on a 3-yard touchdown run and a Mendy Cardichon convert. Myles Gibbon then fired a pair of touchdown passes, 61 yards to Sanchez Deschamps and 11 yards to Duraney White. Cardichon added a pair of converts and the rout was on. The Cheetahs chalked up seven more points late in the second frame when Aloysius Williams hauled in a 23-yard pass from Gibbon at 14:31. Cardichon booted his fourth convert of the day and Vanier went into the locker room with a commanding 28-0 advantage. Édouard-Montpetit tallied a converted touchdown for the only scoring of the third quarter before the Cheetahs responded with 11 unanswered fourth quarter points on a pair of safeties and Biakabutuka’s second major of the day, on a 2-yard run, and another Cardichon convert.

The Cheetahs were paced offensively by Myles Gibbon who rushed for 45 yards on seven carries while completing 13 of 27 pass attempts for 183 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Sack king Ameet Pall anchored Vanier’s defensive unit with 5 tackles including yet another quarterback sack. The Cheetahs enjoy a bye week before travelling to Montmorency on October 13th.
