Finland beats Canada by a 10 to 5 score
Second day of play at the 2007 world ringette championship saw Finland down Canada 10-5 and Sweden capturing an 11-6 win over USA. This is the first international win for Sweden since joining the world event in 1992.
Sweden's Jonna Yrjola earned the nod as player of the game after scoring one goal and picking up six assists. Her teammate Ida-Maria Mullo scored an impressive seven goals and one assist.

The highly anticipated match-up between Canada and Finland ended with the reigning world champs posting a 10-5 win over Canada. In front of a crowd of over 3000 fans, Canada kept it tight in the first, with Ashley Peters (Cardiff Echoes, AB) scoring two for Canada and Finnish singles coming from Elina Raesola and Marja Koponen. Tied at two going into the second, Finland then picked up six, while Barb Bautista (Ottawa/Edmonton) scored a single for Canada. Raesola and Anne Pohjola both picked up pairs and Koponen and Taija Heimovirta picked up singles for Finland. Carly Ross (Edmonton) opened up scoring in the third, but Finland's Salla Kyhala came back with two.

Peters went on to claim her third goal, assisted by Kim Beach (Vancouver) to end the game 10-5. Both Peters and Koponen picked up player of the game honours.

Round robin play continues until tomorrow with the finals scheduled for Saturday, November 3. The bronze medal game will begin at 10 am, with the gold game getting underway at 1 pm. Finland currently holds the world title after downing Canada at the 2004 world ringette championships in Stockholm, Sweden.
