Helping out job hunters
The sixth edition of CARI St-Laurent’s employment days took place on April 29 and 30. Many activities were organized during those two days in order to help out immigrants in their job hunt.
This year’s theme was 1,2,3… On the road to work…. CARI St-Laurent’s own Elham Wehbi hosted the April 29 afternoon information meeting entitled Accommodate yourself to find work . Guillaume Vaillancourt from the Quebec’s Ministère de l’Immigration et des Communautés culturelles was one of the guest speaker.

The second day started with a meeting between local employers and job seeking immigrants. The participants were then divided into groups and were sent out to visit four local businesses: Cellulab, Intalite, Mega Brands and Solutions Cliniques. “We received a very warm welcome and I thought it was a nice and fulfilling experience. I learned that we must always be well prepared, but at the same time we must remain ourselves,” said Nedjma Bernoussi after her visit at Cellulab. The company’s human resources director Julie Sylvestre reminded everyone that “we all come from somewhere and we’re all going somewhere else. So, it’s better to live out our differences than to suffer from them.” For Adil Amzani, who met with the people of Mega Brands, “the visit gave us a better understanding of how they hire their employees and especially the interview process.” Patrick Thomas was really impressed by the quality of the event’s organization. “I had the privilege of visiting Solutions Cliniques where they were kind enough to introduce me to the people who work there daily. We had the chance to talk and they gave us some very good information.”
The Centre d’accueil et de référence sociale et économique pour immigrants (CARI) was created in 1989. It’s a multiethnic social organization which has for mission to welcome and help immigrants find work and integrate the community. Each year, CARI St-Laurent helps out thousands of immigrants.
