Recycling of unsorted materials using wheeled bins
Something new in Saint-Laurent
In the aim of continuing the environmental initiative it undertook several years ago, the Borough of Saint-Laurent would like, in 2009, to further its recycling efforts in residential dwellings and make it more efficient and effective. To this end, recycling of unsorted materials using wheeled bins will be implemented in residential buildings of eight dwellings or fewer in the year ahead. This collection method will enable residents to recycle five times more material than now, using a small blue bin. This method will also reduce the incidence of recyclable materials dispersed by weather or by animals and thereby also reduce the risk of contamination from these materials. In addition, residents will no longer be required to separate recyclable materials by category. All types of recyclable materials can be mixed and deposited in the same bin.

Because the Administration of Saint-Laurent wishes to more efficiently meet the specific recycling needs of every building, residents will be invited to choose the bin size they want. Three sizes are available: 120 litres, 240 litres and 360 litres.

The bins will be distributed free of charge in spring 2009. Please note that the 240 L bin will be delivered by default if you do not indicate your choice of bin during the sign-up period. However, 120 L bins will be delivered to buildings in higher-density areas.

For further information, visit the borough’s website at ville.montreal.qc.ca/saint-laurent or call 311.
