Borouge council highlights
The Borough Council in May ratified several resolutions and also had to answer some questions raised by Saint-Laurent residents interested in the activities of the administration.
One of the citizens, a resident of 135 Deguire Boulevard where an underground parking lot collapsed in November 2008, asked the council about the progress of the administration to pressure the owner to take corrective measures. The members of the council answered that efforts had been made to allow for outdoor parking. Concerning the cleanliness of the location, the council asked residents of the sector to indicate any concerns about the situation. Another Saint-Laurent resident asked the mayor about the series of controversies currently facing the Tremblay administration. Alan DeSousa was asked if he continues to support the mayor of Montreal. “120%,” the mayor of Saint-Laurent answered. “I think that he is the right man for the job.”
Large contracts for parks
Nearly $4,600,000. That is the amount of the contract granted to Cosoltec Inc. for the repair of the chalet and swimming pool, the construction of the wading pool and water games and the partial redevelopment of Painter Park. In addition to this investment, nearly three million dollars will be injected into the renovation work of the chalet and the swimming pool and in the partial landscaping of Chamberland Park. During this time, $950,834 will be devoted to work on the demolition of the wading pool and redevelopment of Houde Park.
Graffiti
A contract of almost $12,500 was given to L'Effaceur for the removal of graffiti on private properties. This is already in practice for public walls. The council asked youth to be responsible and to explore their creativity in authorized places.
Ordre des Grands Laurentiens
The Centre de santé et de services sociaux (CSSS), the health and social services centre of Bordeaux-Cartierville-Saint-Laurent was named recipient of the 2009 Ordre des Grands Laurentiens prize in the family category.
Subsidies
Council approved a financial contribution of $197,933 to be distributed among nine local organizations in support of selected projects. (See table).
Cultural activities
The Director of Culture presented his report for 2008. It was noted among other items that Saint-Laurent residents were busy with many activities; a record number taking place in local facilities was reported.
After the books, the sport
Council submitted a request for financial aid to the Ministère des Affaires municipales, des Régions et de l'Occupation du territoire for a multipurpose sports complex project in Saint-Laurent, within the framework of the Canada-Quebec Building Fund program.
