Adult Education Basketball Tournament a Success
The very first Adult and Vocational Centres Basketball Tournament ended yesterday in Saint-Laurent. Host of the event, Saint-Laurent Adult Centre’s team lost against Place Cartier Adult Centre in a very close game, where two penalty shots lead Place Cartier to victory. The competition, involving four adult education schools, was won by Pearson Adult and Career Centre, located in LaSalle. Overall, the event was a hit, attracting over 200 people and contributing to build a spirit of camaraderie between the schools, says Saint-Laurent Adult Centre’s principal, Harry Michalopoulos. “Traditionally, there is not much in terms of extracurricular activities in adult education. We wanted to change that,” Michalopoulos says. Before the tournament, the campus was a lot more animated than usually as the players prepared for the competition, although the training could have been more extensive. “With two other schools sharing the gym and the city of Montreal renting it regularly, gym availability was an issue, but efforts will be made so that adult education students can have a better access to it in the future” says Michalopoulos. Given the success of the tournament, the experience will most certainly be repeated next year, and the organizers hope to see all five school boards on the island of Montreal get involved.
