St. Laurent Artist’s Exhibition
Born in 1924 in Chelmsford, Ontario, Thérèse Tanguay now lives in Saint-Laurent. where she works on. From May 8 to 13, her oils, watercolours and collages created since 1941 will be shown at 1040 Marie-Anne Est (vernissage on May 8 and 9).
Mrs. Tanguay explains her work as mainly focused on space organization, more specifically the distribution of forms and plastic elements in space. She favours human as a subject, with a particular interest for group compositions.
Johanna Nash said about her watercolours: “Colour and energy shimmer in the figurative paintings of Thérèse Tanguay as she applies her tinted washed and lines with a light and effervescent touch. Her vigorous portraits which avoid sentimentality and irrelevant detail, present a refreshing contrast to the flat, illustrative examples of watercolor paintings which abound. In both feeling and execution these paintings make a respectful reference to the aquarelles of Cezanne.”
